just recived a used/new in the box never ran legacy lionmaster challenger. this version has whistle steam. the main electronic package is an rcmc board.
the original owner bought it and never took it out of the box. I could tell when I unboxed it. this model was cosmetically flawless.
my problem with the engine is when I powered up the track. sounds come on immediately. the smoke units run full blast. also they still operate and put out smoke just the fans quit running even with the pysical switches turned off.
thats all I get btw. I cant program an engine ID or get it to run or make any other sounds. the markersand head light do not work either.
I have taken the shell off the engine. this engine is brand new and you can tell it. there were no pinched wires or loose molex plugs. like I said this thing has never been used.
so from my description of the issues here do I have a bad RCMC board? does lionel still replace these boards given this engine is technically used. the parts web sight shows this rcmc board to be available.
I still want to keep this engine as this one is very hard to find especially new in the box. I have yet to contact the seller, but will do so tommorow.
I dont blame him at all. Some one told me these engines had issues out of the box,but it was just random over all the batches that were made. not all models from this run were bad he said. wich again makes me think the rcmc board is defective.
I took a chance on buying it untested by the owner since it was brand new and the electronic package lionel used in this engine seemed ok. plus the main parts ( rcmc, smoke unit, sound board) are still available from lionel if needed.
am I right in diagnosing this engine?
