PS2 5volt sounds

I bought an older MTH diesel (20-2449-1) with the 5volt boards. It seems to be missing some of the sounds, the cab chatter, horn, whistle, couplers all seem to work but there are no start up, shut down or idle sounds. Will a factory reset bring back missing sounds or is there something that you can suggest to bring them back? I did turn the volume control under the loco all the way up as well as setting all of the sounds at 100% on the remote. Ideas?
