I am in the planning process of building a larger layout. I shall use DCS as my new operating system. Now my question?  I now have my original (but temp) 12.3' L X 6.0' W platform. I also have a MTH rtr steamer and a couple of more ps2 steamers.  I need a simple outside loop and inside loop track plan to learn the DCS protocol to be able to ask intelligent questions.  I don't want to be fussed at.  I have Barry's Bible and will use. Just a simple track plan for now using MTH scale trax, which I already have a loop from my rtr set.

my best regards

I always liked the "main street" track plan MTH puts out for a scale trax package. I dont see why you couldn't incorporate realtrax or even tubular track to use. It says 6x10 but you could add a couple straights to make it fit 6x12 or use the extra space for scenery or modify however you see fit....

Thanks for the reply and the layout plan.  This is what I 'am looking for in a learning curve.  We have a 2 engine siding in the northwest, and a 2 or maybe 3 yard switching siding in the southeast.  This is good.  However my concern is, when I 'am in the inter loop I cannot continue on the outer loop.  I think we need to shuttled back and forth to the outer and inter loop.  What do we need to do to modify the plan so I can choose which loop I want to an engine to run on. I hope this makes sense.

Thank you for the new layout design.  It is very close to what I'm looking at for my learning curve.  I think I would like to add a couple of more switching spurs to the left side of the yard.  There was a thread earlier that use a Ross 3 way, plus 2 each Ross 2 ways, plus some fill ins to make a switching yard.  I lost the thread, Does anyone recall the layout..

Thanks again for staying with me.  I appreciate your help

Tommy

PS I have just started to setup in RR track so I can get it on the table.

Hi Guys

This is the learning layout I am looking for.  I would like to replace the double X-over with a RH and a LH Ross switch.  I have another larger Ross X-over but do not want to use it on this project.  What ross switches should I use to replace the X-over in Gallacher's layout.

Thanks for your input, I appreciate it

I like this one.  I can see myself modifying it a little to have constant running trains on both loops.  connecting a pair of 72 inch switches back to back on each side.  I might try it and if I like it make it permanent.

Thank you for your input.

For my start up learning layout I am going to use the John Gallacher layout with a few more switchers. Using RR v5.1 as my guide

Don't know if this is the right forum but I 'am going to need to know how to cut track and I have the correct tool.  My question to you guys?  Is there a jig out there to lock down my track for cutting.

Tks

Tommy
