Hello Guys and Gals........

I have seen some sunset 3rd brass locomotives come up-graded with ERR cruise and TMCC/railsounds, what is that and what is needed to operate one ?.  Is it better than DCS remote commander set ?  Can anyone explain as i might purchase a brass engine from 3rd.

All the latest models from Sunset/3rd Rail now come with ERR "Cruise Commander", and operate just like any other TMCC equipped model. The latest E7 diesels from Golden Gate Depot also are equipped with ERR, and again operated like any other model equipped with TMCC.

I have also found the Sunset/3rd Rail steam models, previously equipped with Train America Studios EOB system, operate even better under Legacy.

Lionel has licensed TMCC for use by Sunset/3rd Rail, Weaver, and Atlas. The easiest, and least expensive way would be to find a used,or on rare occassion new Lionel TMCC command set 6-12969. You could probably get one from a forum member and these show up often on ebay. If you ever think you might consider any of Lionels legacy offerings in the future you may want to consider a Legacy system. Legacy simply put is TMCC with far more "bells and whistles."

Correct. You can run it conventionally as Jim mentioned, but I figured you were interested in "command control" seeing as you run your challenger via the remote commander.

I believe its discontinued so its something you'd have to look for on ebay or the forum

The command base  should be good to go even used.   The Cab-1 remotes if used a lot will show wear on the push button operations.  I believe most of the new in the box still available would be the set which is the Command base, Command base power supply, and the Cab1 remote.  There is a serial port on the Command base that would have to be connected to an MTH TIU with another cable if to be used with DCS.

Command base is lower right corner Green dot item.

Older picture of my train buddy learning Cab1.  There were key pad overlays that prompted the key functions, one for Diesel and one for Steam. The owners manual for an ERR equiped engine should also have instructions related to the ERR board which can be slightly different.   Cab 1s do not have a view screen.

Summer almost over, back to school next week.  I can't believe how he has grown.

Tiffany,

My club the Black Diamond Society of Model Engineers has a TMCC Command Set in our company store. I am not sure of the exact price but am sure its no more than $100 give or take a few bucks. Look for my email address in my profile if your interested send me an email and we can work out the details.

We bought it throuh a collection and I understand it did not have a lot of use.

Remember that you don't NEED any of this stuff to operate the locomotive. ALL TMCC locomotives will operate just fine in conventional mode with an ordinary transformer, just like the locomotives you already have in your roster.

You only need the command equipment if you want to operate it in COMMAND mode.

If you want to operate it in conventional mode, just like your other locomotives, just put it on the track and run it like all your other locomotives.

It really is that simple.
