Is there a policy that dictates what color the horns are on a modern era freight engine? Is it whatever the builder delivers or do the Class 1's, and other railroads paint them to their individual needs?

I know it is a off-beat question, but as I look at my images and magazines there seems to be silver, black, and colors to match the liveries.

We can discuss in a different thread how our favorite manufacturers determine horn color on a model.

No.

Yes, pretty much.

Depends on the individual railroad, and whether the horn has been changed out (new horns are aluminum and unpainted) or not.
