I have several Lionel "dwarf signals" (see attached picture), and several spurs I want to place them near.  Is it more natural to have the red and green lights facing trains coming into the spur (to indicate whether the turnout makes the spur available), or facing trains coming out of the spur (to indicate whether the mainline is free)?

BOB.....if you use only one it should govern a move off the siding on to the main track. otherwise you would need three dwarfs one for each direction over the switch. in the case of the single dwarf...the train dispatcher would have to authorize a move off the siding after displaying a more favorable signal than stop. then a crew member would open the switch let the train out and close up the switch.....thats it !! conrail john
