I found a great inexpensive backdrop at Hobby Lobby, its in their photo background section, called Wispy Clouds, 4' x 12' roll for $10, with the 40% off code it was like $6.50... its just sky with clouds, but a great starting point and much better than the painted cinder blocks it covered. Really brought my basement layout to life, i did the whole room for under $50

Thanks for the tip! My wife shops there often, so I'll try to tag along on her next trip and check it out!
I picked up two this afternoon. Thanks for the info.
How do you plan on attaching them to the wall? Would wallpaper paste work?
Do they come with mountain image?
Whoa, Pete!.... That's gorgeous!!
But, just as MSP's question....tell us about the image below the wispy cloud sky! Trimmed? Source? etc., etc..
That's just the effect I was thinking of finding a low-cost solution to!
Thanks for any help.

Thanks for posting. I've been looking for backdrops recently. That's a good find. Here's the link to Hobby Lobby:

It was a public domain image I found on Wikimedia Commons:

I stretched the aspect ratio a bit to make it 15' long, but otherwise it is unmodified--mountain image included. I printed it myself on a wide-format printer at work, but there are plenty of print shops that will do it for you. Try Staples or Office Depot.
There are hundreds of really neat images available for free download. Try a Google image search for "panorama". But, start with Wikimedia:
The one called Wispy Clouds is just blue sky and clouds that gradually gets lighter towards the bottom, no mountains, im not sure what backdrop Avanti pete has there but it is gorgeous, hopefully he will share, i too hung the same way like a shower curtain with double sided tape on the seams, they join quite well sheet to sheet

I’ve been putting off investing $400 to $500 for a backdrop as I need about a 50 foot run. So, thought I would give these a try...an inexpensive alternative for a backdrop at less than $10 for a 12 foot run. Purchased 4 rolls...they come @ 4’ x 12’...so I trimed off the bottom 2’ before installing. I didn’t experience any tears, however the paper is fairly lightweight, so that could happen if not careful. You also need to handle these as to not cause creasing.
Not a bad for a “on the cheap” temporary solution...and does add visual interest and depth to the layout...will be staying for awhile!

Anyone know about how much Staples or Office Depot charges to print out a 3' or 4' X 15 image like that ?
The Staples site, under printed indoor banners, shows 2’x8’ in the $50 range and 3’x8’ about $76. Probably best to check with a store and see what other alternatives are available for prints in a long format?
Answered my own question - the Staples in my area (Boston) charges $5.00 per square foot to print out an image like that on heavyweight paper, so a 3' X 15' backdrop would cost $225.00, plus tax. I believe I priced a slightly smaller, but similar 3' X 12' image from Backdrop Warehouse at around $190.00 or $230.00, depending on image quality.
One more point - the Hobby Lobby paper also comes in other designs like regular clouds, brick wall, beaches, foliage, wood and night sky for the more adventurous - just click on the color palette next to the words "Wispy Clouds" on the above link.
Office Depot will do it here for 2.99/ft. I was going to combine the HL paper along with some I print. I was thinking the heavy matte finish would be a better match than printing on a semi-gloss paper. Any thoughts?
