I was watching some videos on Youtube when in the sidebar, Alan Arnold's Layout video (posted December 13, 2015)  showed up.  I have seen many postings of pictures from his layout but had never seen the video.  One can tell from the photos that is is a well done layout but watching the video rally shows how well done the layout is.  The track work, catenary system, structures, trains and trains running are just fabulous!

Just curious as to the size, track plan and how long has it been under construction?

If you have not sen the video, it is well worth checking out on Youtube.

Happy railroading,

Don

I just happened to see this thread....!!  Actually I was on YouTube getting ready to post an update when this popped up in the search engine...!  Anyway, thanks so much Don for starting the thread.  And, thanks for the nice comments guys!  I have made further progress and there are parts of the layout that are finished that were not in the video which will be 3 years old this coming December.

Curt....What a great idea!!  I had never thought about doing something like that...uhmm....a fishing trip and layout tour.  Heck, we have several fantastic layouts within a couple of hours...Roger Wasson's comes to mind.  AND...the Lake Norfork as well as Bull Shoals Lake are practically in my back yard as well as the White River and Buffalo River not far away.....  If there was enough interest (at least 4 to 6 of you), I would be willing to set it all up....!!

I would be game for this also.

Place a visit to Alan's Layout on your "bucket list"... to do before you "kick the bucket." I have visited his empire a few times over the years, since he is located (as I am) in Arkansas. It's incredible - one of few vertically-oriented O-gauge layouts based on the urban environment.

Alan wrote a series of articles about his layout for publication in THE LION ROARS magazine of the Lionel Collectors Club of America (LCCA). Fortunately for hobbyists everywhere, he is as good a writer and photographer/videographer as he is a model RR designer-craftsman and operator.

Thanks Mike....actually Mike was really responsible for those articles.  He was so easy to work with having predetermined questions and based on how I answered them (sort of an interview style), he wrote up the well done articles basically in my own words/answers to the questions.

Quick update on Curt's idea (above)....  Roger Wasson and I have already talked about a layout tour along with Curt arranging for a fishing trip to our area...a combo so to speak!  Lots of water and outdoor activities available.  The tour would encompass layouts in my area as well as Springfield Mo, Roger's neck of the woods.  So...we are waiting for Curt's report on the meeting with his club and friends and if he can get enough folks to participate.  If you are interested...let us know.

Here are a couple of pictures...the first one taken in April of 2016 and the second one taken in April of this year compliments of my good friend Bill Bramlage.  He photo shopped the cloudy sky which makes the city look so much better...and speaking of cities....his urban layout blows mine away a 100 fold..!!

Whoever coaxes you to go to Ohio would be playing games with you as Alan’s layout is about 1000 miles south of that

OUCH, Thought Alan was close to the Ohio OGR Headquarters
