The latest issue of Classic Trains Magazine (Spring 2015 issue) just arrived in our mail, and anyone & everyone interested in the famous EMC/EMC "F unit" diesel models, should real get this issue. The magazine is celebrating their 15th year by providing a 75-Year Tribute to the FT and all models through to the last FL9.

Ah, excellent! Now if the Post Office can deliver my mag in some semblance of it's original form! Generally my historical society and Classic Trains arrive shredded, spindled and mutilated.
Yes, I picked it up yesterday at my favorite HS and read part of it so far. Nothing beats an F unit. They tell about models that I was never aware of plus some that didn't work out as planned. Pretty piece of machinery. Funny how things from that era have become icons of industrial art. All drawn with pencil and paper and using brains.
Hot Water - Thanks. That's one issue I would have hated to miss.
Most excellent! More classic EMD to munch on !
Love the Tom Gildersleeve center-spread foto of Santa Fe war bonnet F's (2 A's elephant style, followed by 4 B's) at Summit on Cajon on the Grand Canyon.
The Post Office must have hired some new amateurs who have not been properly trained in magazine shredding. Mine arrived intact!
This is a great companion to the E-unit issue they did in Summer 2012.

Haven't gotten my copy, yet; but, can someone post the author of the piece?

The author of the complete "F Unit" story is Preston Cook, former employee at EMD and a good friend. Preston also authored the complete "E Unit" story in Classic Trains Magazine back in 2012.
I wonder if he wrote anything about the headache bar?

HW, thanks for the information. I have the Jeff Wilson F and E unit books, and look forward to learning more about the F units from your friend's article.
One of the best issues of an already superior magazine. The coverage in this issue is amazing, informative, and full of personal experiences of bringing a new product to the rails. The FL9 essay was real eye opener...problems, problems...a wonderful read.
What part of "All you ever wanted to know about "F units."" did you misunderstand? Obviously there are no photos of any "E Units" in the article. I suggest that you go back to the Classic Trains Magazine 2012 issue about E Units.
darn that alphabet thing............
