the catch? you have to volunteer on Capitol Hill to get a ticket home
Norfolk to DC? Is there something in the electricity there?
Bill,
I thought the catch was, if they SLICED the fare in 1/2, that would be like cutting the deficit and thus saving the country $$$ if enough people buy tickets.
Dominic,
If you only knew how hard it is to get out of this area you'd see the silver lining. Before, the only way was to RIDE A BUS to Newport News, then catch the train to DC (I know, why?).
I haven't ridden a train since N&W 1218 ran back in the 80s. I think they had to run it into Petersburg because they couldn't run it around the loop at Lambert's Point, at least it seems that's where we boarded the train. This $38 round trip may be my next ride

I was refering to DC as Direct Current, as a pun. Heard traffic is a pain in the cabin car there.
DOH! That went way over my head
I need to look at the schedule, I'd like to catch the train up in the morning (I guess it pulls into Union Station) and walk around for a bit then come home that afternoon, just to say I did it
Bob, you know AMTRAK at Newport News has free parking right at the station. I've made the Newport News-to-DC run several times. My favorite section is riding through the middle of the city street in Ashland, VA, which has Train Town Toy & Hobby, a great train store by the way.
Every once in while Amtrak has really cheap fares like DC to CHI for $35. I'd like to ride, like you say, just to do it.
Yep, Farmer Bill, just to do it. It's fun for me.
