It's a hump, but River City 3 Railers will be running a reduced layout at the Chesterfield County Fair (Va) the week before Labor Day. I always run at least one stupid-long train. The invitation is always open to OGR Forum members. You're welcome to run-whatcha-brung. Check the website for the schedule. Our full layout will be up at the Richmond Science Museum in November.
FWIW, we used to live on Snyder Store Road in Wingate back in the mid '80s. Beautiful country.

The national capital trackers have done 100+ car trains several times. I've seen it and been a part of a few of those efforts. They are usually a pain to set up and get going, and invariably a knuckle breaks somewhere in the train but its fun anyways. Its not uncommon for a few members to regularly do 40-60 car trains.

We usually have at least one 45-50 car train during a show, but typically, they're more like 20 and 9-10 for passenger trains. We're in SE-PA, so it's a hike for you.
Wow!!I bet you have people watching the trains.Saying "This is like the real thing.I had to wait on a long freighttrain just yesterday.A few year ago I lived in a moblehome.I would run some long trains like this
We sometimes run long trains at open houses, but it can be a hassle setting them up/taking them down. So most members just keep them to 20 cars or less and we run more trains on each main instead.
As Gilly@N&W said, we ususally run a long tran or two!
Peter
I always ran relatively short trains, no more than 13 cars.
But, I would change them every half hour so someone returning later would usually see a different train in operation.
Rusty
we have been known to run some long trains at NJHR open houses
I enjoy getting long trains together....Usually only 13-20 cars but i have put much longer ones together in the past.... any more then 10-13 cars and i cant leave the train in the power isolated "block section" of our Modular layouts yard to allow other trains to run on the track, or to switch trains (passenger to freight, etc) Our "Track 1" has a main line and 2 "yard tracks" that switch into the main line, it is pretty convenient to be able to just pull into the yard and flip power off.
and this classic
WE DO. Independent Hi-Railers Midwest Division.
I'm a member of FMRC (Ford Model Railroad Club) I run at least 40 cars on every train I run. The bigger the layout we set up, the longer the train. Always run 3-6 diesels at the piont or doublehead stemers.

Matt, great plan. I've run with modular groups where one guy will have such a long train it takes him 15 minutes to get it off the track so someone else can run. Get a lot of feedback from friends with kids who go to train shows and for 3 minutes not a train goes by. They do appreciate the time and effort to set up, just like to see equipment running.
HAH3,
On your longest train there are three green Pennsylvania RR box cars. Where these built by Weaver?
FCTT- Hirailers did a 100 car train at York one year. Mostly TOFCs, double stacks, roadrailers, etc. Since we filled the Black Hall that year the train was longer than one side. The engine heading north when the rear car was just heading south. Unfortunately this was before even club members could take pictures.
One time I did a 32 car freight. Limiting factor is the length of the sidings which varies from show to show.

I love to run long passenger trains. 12 to 18 cars is fun and they are usually a great crowd pleaser.
A couple of long train samples from Open Houses. Both were able to be easily staged in the staging yard, but setup and take-down were a hassle. We've since adopted a short train "policy" during open houses to allow for more trains, but we'll still run the occasional long train if there are fewer members running.
The first is a unit grain train with 20 Atlas PS4427 hoppers in tow -- a mix of three-rail and 2-rail cars with scale-wheeled engines.
The next is a CNW grain train from 2012.

Matt,
I'm looking into the possibility of your running your new 21" passenger trains at the NMRA Kansas City convention. You mentioned you might be interested. Was that jesting or a serious proposal? Dates are Aug. 5 through Aug. 12th. The train show is on the weekend of the 11th and 12th.
Here are two of mine. 79 cattle cars, plus caboose and motive power.

No at least you have a few shows a year. the only shows around here are Atlanta or where you are. I'm in S.C. almost GA. it's anywhere from 3 to 4+ to get to a show for me. The only ones in Columbia, S.C. is no selling shows and all scales to more or less show there trains and try to get more interested in joining there club.
Show February 9,10 Easley SC. CRMHA.org
The Train of Sin at the GBGH Dec 2017. I messed up and left 3 cars in the boxes. This was only 82 cars. FWIW, motive power was WbB (all three powered).
These things take a ton of time to setup. I started @9:30 AM and finally put away the last piece @3:00 PM.
And in not really that long of a train, just before Christmas I put out every piece of Christmas rolling stock I own.

82 cars???????!!!!!!!!
We're not worthy! We're not worthy!!!!!
Well done!
The longest so far this past season saw many trains in the 40-50 car range. Attached is a video link from a 2 years ago where we tested the layout and ran 125 cars. We did this to test the capacity of the layout. We found out you cant do this at a show as it takes a lot of maintenance to set up, break down and keep it going.

I like long trains too, but...
The G club here used to set up in the phone company lobby. Loop with straight track about 60-80 feet. They would run an engine and 4-5 cars. The kids seemed to have more fun following the train around. Different strokes.
I tend to run a 80-90 car coal train sundays at shows.

L.L.TRAIN linked to his personal account page in the 'owner view' mode. I too followed the link and wound up at my own YouTube account page.
After going to his public-facing YT homepage I located the test videos:
(protip: turn off image stabilization on shots like the third video. The passing train will confuse the camera at such close range)

A pretty good size string of Std Gauge about half way into this video.
