I have a bad black writable module, it works fine for the multi engine feature but when I try to update my base, it's gives me the 5 flashes of the yellow light, tried it several times, nothing all the times, I haven't tried the remote yet. Any way I could get it fixed or am I out $20?

Are you sure that the base is not the issue? Are you using 1.6 for the base and 1.61 for the remote as per the latest updates?
There have been reports of unupdateable Base issues.
That's interesting mine has always worked fine for cab and base updates but when I try the multi-engine feature it always just puts the first engine on the module. I just always figured there was something wrong with the software.

I was trying to upgrade my base from 1.52 to 1.6.
Maybe you need a free one.
Free Black Modules for Legacy
I'll have to try that, John! Thanks for the link.

I had a similar issue but was able to try it again and it worked. I eventually sent the base to Lionel because it had very poor wifi to the CAB2. I don't know if the issues were related.
I tried like 5 times and all 5 times it did the same flash code, 5 blinks of the yellow light, my uncle has two black modules, I'll try both to make sure they work.
I doubt it's your module since it works elsewhere. I had the same problem updating my base and it was the base, not the modules, a few different ones were tried on mine. Lionel tech at my LHS tried his modules on it as well, they didn't work either. Had to go back to Lionel for repair.
Call Lionel tomorrow and ask them about it. They will probably have you try a thing or two and then give you an RA number.
I will but I don't know if they'll take it since it's out of warranty.

The Legacy 990/993 warranty is running an indefinite amount of time.

Sweet! Thanks for the info.
As cjack says above, they have been repairing them out of warranty for quite some time now.
Sounds good.
I suspect the thought is that if you don't have a control system, you probably will be less inclined to buy Legacy locomotives.

I just recently purchased a TMCC system should my legacy need to be serviced, so I'm all set there . BTW, Can I shoot you an email, I have a question on your LED lighting system.
My email is in my profile.
