After getting samples of shredded rubber ballast, and some samples from Brennen's and Woodland Scenic, ... are there any colors available beside the whitish eastern granite ballast, or the blackish yard ballast?
Out in the West is usually darker than the white granite on the mainlines.
The really nice reddish ballast from the old GN line through Montana would be fantastic to use! Thought about how one could fill some 5 gallon buckets of "stray" ballast from around Essex, smash it all up on a big steel plate with a big BIG hammer, get it the right size, ... wow. What a task! But it would be unique and prototypical!!
