Ok, so I bit off more than I should have on this one.  Three Bassett Lowke locos as parts plus a tender.  The guy had taken them all apart as a few wheels had self destructed and was selling all the pieces separately.  Sooo, a fool and his money  or so the saying goes.   So far I have the three shells and a tender along with three front bogies (crumbled wheels).  I'm going after two motors and a set of wheels if I can figure out what size came on each loco...  The loco's are, Duke of York, Prince Charles, and Princess Elizabeth.  From looking at pictures on line both the Duke and Princess use 14 spoke drivers and the Prince Charles uses 18 spoke.  He has a good set of 14 spoke that are 1.7" (43mm).  What I am after is what diameter drivers came on these locos?  I'm looking on line and maybe I'll figure it out if I look in the right place but thought I would ask here as well.  These are the sellers pictures as I do not have the parts yet. Again, trying to figure out which drivers would have gone on each of these.  I have found a source for buffers, bogie wheels, and other stuff and figured worst case I might be able to use wheels from Walsall models Live steam parts or some other similar supplier.  I used another such supplier to get some parts for a Live steam BAT a while back and had very good luck.

Dennis,

I have a (prewar) Duke of York and a (postwar) Prince of Wales, both clockwork.

The Duke has 14 spoke drivers measuring 48 mm over flanges and 44 to 42 mm at the wheel-rim.

The Prince has 18 spoke drivers measuring 46 mm over flanges and 43 to 42 mm at the wheel-rim.

The wheel rims of the Duke are thus more concave and the flanges higher. If you need more measurement just let me know.

In my experience the people at the Bassett Lowke society (http://www.bassettlowkesociety.org.uk/) are very helpful.

Here is the Duke:

And here is the Prince

Fred, that is perfect!   the seller has at least one pair of wheels that match your measurements. I'll check out that link as well. I found this site that seems to have some of the parts I'll need, http://www.toytrainspares.net/..._BASSETT-LOWKE_.html.  I guess another question I would have is are all the 4 wheel BS motors the same or are there different versions for the various loco's or wheel diameters?

By the way, Fred, as always, your video's are a pleasure to watch and great reference as well!

Dennis,

The only difference I can see in the (clockwork) engines of the Prince and Duke is that the Prince needs a male key. The mechanism including axle spacing is exactly the same. I just found some pictures I made previously of the Duke and Prince which I have attached. I also have a Lowke 4-4-0 electric LMS compound locomotive and this has the same axle spacing and it looks like the electric and clockwork mechanisms of all these 4-4-0's are interchangeable. This LMS compound is considered a scale locomotive:

Fred
