IMG_0744IMG_0745IMG_0746IMG_0747Good afternoon,

Seventy seven year old O Scale traction 2 railer here, but I'm a Prewar Lionel Beginner.

I recently purchased on eBay a 1071E set.  Cosmetically the set is in very nice condition.

I'm inclined to believe that the motor is not original.

Would anyone be able to identify the motor.  I have done quite a bit of Internet research on the set and on the motor itself, but I have only been able to locate the period catalogs that show the set.  I can not identify this motor.  My novice guess is that it is from a prewar steam locomotive.  Also appears to have a homemade motor mounting knob using the factory mounting screw through the stack section of the carbody roof.  Motor is very loose when screwed into position in the carboy shell.

Here are my specific questions:

1.) What motor is this?

2.) What is the number of the original motor supplied with the 1071E set?

3. Was this loose mounting arrangement typical of factory during this time period?

4.) Does anyone have any factory instructions, manuals, exploded diagrams or any other information that they would be willing to share?  I would be happy to pay for any relevant documents.

Thank you all so very much for any information you may have.IMG_0748
