I'm starting planning for our new 7 X 21 foot layout in our "forever home" and have a rather basic "layout design" question.

I plan to use 3/4" plywood topped with 1/2" Homasote.  On my last layout, built in the winter of 2006-2007, I used one of the products in the Liquid Nails line to glue the Homasote to the plywood.  I don't remember exactly which one of their products other than it came in a tube and was applied with a caulking gun.  Over the 12 to 13 years of that layout, I became less and less impressed with the Liquid Nails product as some separation and slight lifting occurred near the corners and edges of the Homasote while the 3/4" plywood attached to the Mianne benchwork with screws stayed perfectly flat.

Based on your experience with Homasote and plywood, what do you recommend as the best adhesive to glue those two materials together for the top of the layout?

Thank you.

I just screwed mine down, I saw no reason to glue it as well.  I used plenty of screws, and it's flat and remains so.

That’s what I did. I figured if I ever had to take it up the last thing I want is something that is going to come up in a million little pieces. In my opinion as long as your track screws do not go through the homasote into the plywood there is no need to glue it but to each his own.

I used screws.  I also added a barrier layer between the homosote and the plywood. The barrier is a thin rubber-like sheet used to deaden sound under hardwood flooring.  It made a difference.

I used carpet adhesive.  Henry's makes a number of these.  I troweled it on with a notched trowel.  Used drywall screws to hold the homasote in place to the plywood until the adhesive dried and then removed the screws to use on something else in the future.  You can get Henry's at most big box home improvement stores and a square notched trowel is pretty cheap.
