Finished the Bluetooth transmitter-equipped test bed; a Lionel TMCC-equipped NYC FT-A.

Why the FT-A?

  1. I have already upgrade the Railsounds with the proper prime mover & horn.
  2. It has plenty of space inside for the Bluetooth transmitter.
  3. It was cheap enough that if I blew anything, I wouldn't be very upset.

I did something similar about 5 years ago. It worked very well just as yours does. The problem for me was as the engine moves further away from the sub woofer you still hear the bass at the same level. The bass volume is not relative to the distance between the user and the engine. There needs to be a proximity sensing circuit of some sort. Kind of like what SoundTraxx had with their SurroundTraxx DCC under layout sound system. That is a lot more complicated than a simple Bluetooth TX / RX setup. Still, it's cool to hear the missing low frequencies that the on-board speakers can't produce well.

John,

You may be on to something... instead of beaming the sounds out, why not beam sounds in?

How about speakers in cars to pump in:

  • Flange squeal
  • wheel clack
  • Doppler-effect horn
  • Real passing train sounds
  • True-to-life radio conversation
  • Custom station announcements

The list goes on...

Thanks,

Mario

For a lot of the sounds you mention, you could look into my upcoming remote controlled sound board.

I saw the video... pretty cool!

What about sending sounds to non-powered diesels, either trailing head end power or DPUs?

How's that one?

Thanks,

Mario
