imageimageimageimageMy soon to be stepson has wanted a train set for quite a while. My love of trains rubbed off on him. He was wanting a n&w 611 so I gave him my old mth railking model in addition to two coach tickets to ride on it this summer. I had the idea of doing a fold down layout in my girl friends apt. Space is limited and until we are married and have bought our house commuting to my house to play with trains wasn't going to work for me. I started out with a fold down layout when I was a kid. For this layout I decided to go with Lionel fast track 0-36 curves. The board is 4'x7'6". Just a little bit longer than his bed. I want to cut out a center opening and then add a center support. He's one happy engineer. He helped with the cutting, measuring, nailing, and wiring.

Just wanted to comment, it is so cool you are sharing this with the boy like that, that is so, so important. Plus I think when the time comes and you guys are in a house together, that you will share something very special, and speaking as a dad, having that is a lifetime of memories. About all I could suggest is maybe adding a spur off the straight side, or maybe a passing siding, to give it some interest.

I think you are right about the siding. This is his first layout so I wanted it to be simple and easy for him to use. We have plans for a basement layout once our house is ready
