I liked Jan - a truly knowledgable guy. I bought a tank car kit from him. Made my own instructions:
1. Salvage PSC parts for a future project. (Domes)
2. Cut tank wrapper for boiler bands.
3. Recycle other brass scraps.
I also knew Jan. A very intelligent person. That said sometimes the instructions for his kits were like a block of wood and the instructions were cut away everything that does not look like the project at hand.
He was a pioneer of O scale in the seventies.
Having build a number of Jan's kits over the years, the instructions tended to be a bit on the minimalist side basically expecting you to (1) already know what you were doing and (2) that you probably did not need any instructions either.
I suspect for this car that they read as follows:
1 Assemble sides, ends, underbody, and top.
2 Solder all together
3 Paint and decal
4 Add trucks and couplers
5 Run car
I found a newsletter in my files and he listed three or four three bay covered hoppers. They were listed as Pullman Standard designed. I don't recall a PS design with 13 equally spaced ribs per side. Any thoughts...
