Recently I saw the usual CSX eastbound intermodal Q008. Well what was unsuall, the engineer. Listen this and I mean THIS AWESOME SUPERB Nathan 5 Chime K5LA train horn show!! This is not at a RR crossing. He just gave a totally nice horn show. The horn show starts at 0:20 in the video.

That is nice. Lansing, Illinois Board of Trustees is working on an ordnance to ban train whistles in our little village. We have four grade crossings on the CN main line (also AmTrak). I like the sounds I hear when we are home and appreciate the sounds when approaching the tracks. The whistles are blown for safety, yet a few citizens have enough influence to ban the safety procedure. Only in America. John in Lansing, ILL
sounded more like someone/ something was alarmingly close to the track and it was more of a warning to you /whoever...but i wasnt there...
Nice doppler effect.
Doppler effect is the change in sound frequency (pitch), related to the speed of a moving sound source. Frequency of a train whistle/horn moving toward you, v.s. Frequency of a train whistle/horn moving away. 
Sheldon on Big Bang Theory once attended Penny's Halloween costume party dressed as a Doppler Effect! What a hoot - of course nobody had a clue! LOL!
