I was focused on the white car as it inched forward, but then wham on the one coming from the other direction.  That was a left hand turn lane beyond the tracks and I'll bet the light was green and they thought what a good day, a green light, let me get there before it changes.   Brightline incidents happen so much, eventually they will have hit or killed all those that take chances, sort of a Darwin solution to the problem.

Dorfj,I thought the same thing - no train horn approaching the crossing

What difference does that make? The gates were down, lights flashing, all other traffic was stopped at the crossing. The car came up to the crossing fast, not trying to slow down, goes under the gate, and gets hit by the train.

There are many "quiet crossings" around the country. No horn doesn't mean that you ignore the other warnings.
