Hi

I put together a layout using fastrack and have quickly realized that I don't really need the reversing loop - so I am going to add a yard instead - below is a before and after - would love to get some thoughts.

Note that the layout has a 2% grade (so the right side is higher than the left side) - I would be keeping the yard level with the left side

Also note that I was planning on adding some BTS buildings on the 2 spurs nearest the top of the diagram (a switcher shed and a car servicing facility) with the 3 lower spurs being used for staging/car storage.

Mike:

Maybe two smaller yards coming off both sides of the inner loop. One going 'up' the other 'down'. This may give you more real estate for different buildings.

If not two yards maybe a passing siding on the other side of the layout. This way you can park one train while another is running (maybe a passenger station).
