Hi all, I have an old K-Line CSX SD70MAC that is missing several detail parts and does not run (i.e. sparking and smoking when powered on). I would like to convert to a non powered engine to run with my MTH CSX AC6000CW. How exactly do I go about this? Is it as simple as disconnecting the motors, or do I have to mess with the worm gear as well.

Is it possible to leave some of the features like lights, smoke unit, or even the sound functional? While this would be nice to have I am more focused on what I need to do to allow the engine to roll freely.

Thanks in advance!

You can physically remove the motors and then use the motor mount to hold the trucks in place.  You can't just disconnect the motors, they'll lock the wheels.  It's dirt simple to remove the motors, one screw under the truck, then two screws to remove the motor mount from the motors and put the single screw back in from the bottom to hold the truck on using the motor mount.

Good information thanks John.

What exactly is sparking and smoking? What system is installed? There is a good chance that you will have to pull the boards as well as the motors if one of them is fried and smoking when you apply power. The wiring to the motors and bad board has to be removed or capped. Lights and smoke are possible depending on set up. Not sure about sound. If you don't know anything about electronics or wiring, then you would be better off to remove everything in the unit so you don't cause problems for your other equipment.
