Cruise Control for Atlas Trainman diesels

Since no one has responded to this on the Atlas O forum I decided to try here:

How hard is it to upgrade Atlas O Trainman diesels to cruise control? Can you use a modular unit (Like ERR's CruiseCommander M), or do you need to replace the whole TMCC unit?

The Atlas engines used the TAS stuff last time I heard, they weren't using the Lionel modular package. That being the case, I don't know that you can use the ERR Cruise Commander M with them. If they use the standard Lionel package, then the CCM should work fine.

When I had the shell off my RSD 4/5 the TMCC boards looked just like Lionel parts. I think a cruise commander m will work. But ask the err guys first.

I didn't realize that they used Lionel packages, I thought those guys still used the TAS stuff.

th GP15 and the SDP35 have modular packages for the electronics inside ,so you can apply ElectricRR Cruise Commander M.
That is what I did with success in both engines.

Flash had a good suggestion. I have upgraded an engine using their board. I called them and they were very helpful and familiar with what their board will work in.

How did you do it? I'm doing an Atlas dash 8 right now only to realize there is TAS stuff in here.The instructions don't say anything about using with a TAS board

You can't use the Cruise Commander M with the TAS board. The cheapest way to solve this issue is to buy a Lionel compatible motherboard, use the three board set that is currently plugged into the TAS SAW, and add the Cruise Commander M. Motherboard will be around $20, a lot cheaper than the alternatives.

I figured that. I have a Lionel NYC GP-30 with odyssey that ive been pulling parts off of. Will the motherboard from this loco work?

I believe so. I have a couple of Odyssey motherboards from a couple of scrapped engines, and though they're Odyssey, they will support a standard DCDR (or Cruise Commander M) as well.
