Hello Vintage O scalers

Does the name  "Jack Bramble" bring images of PRR trains atop an outside 3rd rail O scale layout to you ?

Jack Bramble wrote  several articles for the Model Railroader from the mid 1930's - 1950 .... in MR February 1949 a nice article describing a number of engine he built .... mostly PRR .    Jack had a unique outside 3rd rail pick up that he used ..... and is present on this pair of Sharks.     Sharks did not begin to swim on the RR till 1950 ....  searching MR's archive does not turn up any links between Jack and a set of Sharks .....

1955 Max Grey imported Sharks ... but with conventional drive ... and 2 rail .

Any one out there familiar with Jack Bramble's post  1949 production ? He had a set of EMC's F units ...so  one would think  a Shark would be for coming to add to the ranks .

This pair of Sharks is big ...17/64ths ... unique belt drive .... like Varney .

Any insights would be appreciated .

Thank you

Cheers Carey

Nice looking sharks! Thought I would share my scratch built Jerry White sharks. I have another A that I found unpainted. Keep these old scratch built locos alive. For everyone, Make sure you label the boxes of any scratch built models when you know, this way when they are inherited by someone the builder doesn't get forgotten. Keep their legacy alive.

Scale City ....Great   "White" Sharks .....thank you for posting the photos ....when did Jerry White build the lovely set ?

Stephen  thank you for your kind words .

Bob   yes it is important to leave as much information with or on the piece as possible ...to keep the history together.

So much information is lost when an estate is broken up by the next of kin or disinterested parties ....

Jack Bramble wrote many articles  in Model Railroader ... using their handy dandy online achieve can bring every issue from 1934 to your screen ..not quite the same as holding an original magazine in your hand ....but it sure makes pin pointing information much easier .

After Jack's big spread in 1949 ......  MR wrote a piece in 1950  about how outside 3rd rail was dead ......this did not sit well with Jack who modeled in outside 3rd rail ..... Jack was happy to tell MR he was not dead,  pointing out many of the other outside 3 rd rail layouts that existed at the time ........ last time Jack did an article for MR .

Cheers Carey

Long live outside 3rd rail !!!
