Forgive me, I am not very knowledgeable about electronics.
It has been said that MTH DCS uses a signal through the track, much like DCC. Lionel’s TMCC system operates through a radio signal.
So, how is it that TMCC locomotives can be run on a DCS system??

DCS can control the TMCC base.
Wrong forum! This has nothing to do with 3RS modeling per the descriptions at the top of this forum.
Hot Water: TMCC is O3R, DCS is O3R, I only included DCC as a comparison to DCS.
How is it this does not belong in this forum?

Did you read the descriptions at the top of the forum on just what 3RS modeling is all about?
@RockyNaff While I mainly use DCS or transformer control, I can use my DCS app to control a TMCC base which then sends its signal to the engines on the track. So the engine is actually running on TMCC signals not DCS. My stuff is essentially 3 rail with a few MTH PS3 engines which can run DCC by changing a switch.
As far as I understand, MTH is the only manufacturer who build a control system which could interface with a competitors base.

The reason other makers don't interface to the MTH DCS system is MTH kept their protocol a closed system. They don't allow any kind of licensing, so Lionel couldn't interface to it if they wanted to. In any case, now with the greatly diminished stature of MTH, I doubt Lionel has any interest in interfacing with it now if they ever did.
