We have moved the layout to a new house with a larger train room.  The extra space on two sides that previously butted up against walls are now accessible from both sides.  After some measurements we found that we could add hinged 8 foot, 20"wide,  3/4" thick plywood wings to those two sides, allowing them to fold down if necessary to access portions of the layout.  The wings will have just lightweight ground cover so we can set removable houses cars etc. on them (no track or permant fixtures).

Would like suggestions on hardware that would allow us the lock the wings upright horizontal and can be released to fold wings down when needed.  Could fashion folding legs to attach to main table using screws, but might be unsightly and a pain (old knees ain't what they used to be).

Been looking in big box  and hardware stores in hardware/cabinet areas but so far nothing mechanical suggests itself.
