Do MTH occasionally update or improve their ps3 sound files on their locomotives product pages, or will those thats available to download always be the original that comes shipped with your ps3 engine?

I know of at least one case where the sound files were upgraded, so the answer to the question would have to be yes, they might be updated.

Correct, this is done often. Remember, if you have a PS-2 sound file that you like, as long as it is from a 3 volt file, it can be loaded into a PS-3 locomotive.
