Got tired of the MTH "porthole" doors on baggage cars and combines. Non-prototypical for the majority of items they sell, no idea why they never offered alternatives. Took matters into my own hands...

Just have to paint the handle and add the acetate "glass".

Also made some replacement steps. This car was missing a set when I got it. Still need a few tweaks, but as this was heading to the paint shop, it got the prototype...

Nice work. Are the new parts 3D printed?

Yup. Funny thing, I painted 4 cars, including a baggage car and combine, and forgot to paint the doors. Thankfully I still had another 3 cars to paint, so I hit the doors first thing the next day. Would have been really ticked off if I had to clean out the airbrush just to paint 6 doors...

Also learned an important lesson about fresh paint. I had 2 jars of Pullman green, one I'd purchased at a LHS, and another I'd ordered along with a few other colors I needed that the LHS didn't have from a place that gets them directly from Tru-Color. First jar went on fine. Second sprayed like crap, clogging the gun, and applying terribly. Checked which was which, and the one that was terrible was from the LHS. No telling how long it'd been on their shelves, but since it's solvent based, if it sits too long, the solvent evaporates (at least in the older jars, they may have changed them to correct this on the newer ones), leaving the paint too thick to shoot correctly right out of the jar.
