I have had some posts on backdrops and used very helpful advice from this forum. Well, they're done and I moved on to the benchwork...and it's level!  Used an open grid design, with 1/2 plywood on top. Will put Soundboard over that. The gap between the table top and backdrop is to accommodate a second level.  Have not done that yet.  Corners will have mountains.

I have a question on cut out for a harbor scene, but will post that on the scenery forum.

The fun continues!

Jim,

The height of the lower level is quite low: 31".  This is partially to accommodate the upper level, which will be about the height of the "bar top" viewing area, 40".  Also easier for grandkids to operate some vintage Lionel accessories (milk car, cattle car, etc).

Ramboard is there temporarily to protect carpeting.  This was a bedroom in the basement of house we moved into and this room was designated as my train room (yeah!).  My son, contractor, opened up the wall for a viewing area. Makes the room more open for viewing.  This was a design I had as a teenager and it worked well for viewing and operating.
