Was running trains this afternoon and ran into an issue with the route programming of my DZ2500 machines. Sometimes the machine LED's don't indicate the correct position of the switch so usually I would just push the button on top of the machine and the light would change to the proper color for the switch position. Did this today and must have held the button down too long and the machine went into program mode.

Re-programmed the switch in question and suddenly lost all of my routes. I use routes for the Ross 4-way yard switch to avoid any possibility of derailments when moving engines in and out the yard. Never had an issue until today.

Tried to reprogram the routes using both the Legacy Remote and also dug out my CAB1 and tried to use that to program the them but none of the programming is working. Never had any issues over the past three to four years that they have been in use.

I can address individual switches and they throw in the proper direction but I can't seem to get the Route programming to work so I know that the Data Wire Driver is working, at least to address the switches. Maybe that device has lost the ability to program routes.

Any ideas?

BTW: In order to program routes you the machines accept the same commands as a Lionel SC2

The routes for switching are handled differently in Legacy. They're stored in the  command base instead of in the switch machines themselves. The instructions to program a route are on pages 69-73 in the Legacy manual. There is some added capabilities such as routes within routes and the ability to build up to 99 routes.

When I connected my Legacy set the routes had already been set up using the instructions from the DZ2500's instruction sheets and the CAB1. When the Legacy base and remote were connected to my layout I was initially able to address the routes without any additional programming.

I have resolved the issue this morning after reading the procedure in the Legacy manual. I had been trying to re-program the routes using the DZ2500 procedure and even connected the CAB1 and remote via the Legacy TMCC cable and it still did not work.

However, I was able to restore the routes via the Legacy remote and everything is fine.

I'm surprised that the information is stored in the base and not via the data-wire driver.

All is well.

Just goes to show you if all else fails read the instruction manual.

In TMCC the route were stored in the switch machines themselves that is why they worked for you until you reprogrammed one. The route information in it was then erased. In Legacy the route are saved in the base and the added features that are now available makes the change well worth it. I'm glad you got everything going again.
