If you can properly wire up the motor to an 'E' unit, and there is room in the loco to install it, then it can be done.
Do you want the old electro-mechanical 'E' unit or the newer electronic unit?

Not sure what type any suggestions thanks tony
This is an electro-mechanical 'E' unit, used into the postwar era, and here is an electronic replacement used in modern locomotives.

Hi Larry
I found some info on the engine it looks like it had a pendulum reverse unit that was removed and wire to run forward I like to install the mechanical e unit but have no idea how to wire it to the motor, would you have any info on that thank tony
Here is the diagram that shows how to hook up an electro-mechanical 'E' unit.
