I am currently looking to upgrade my Lionel lion master challenger with an ERR cruise commander. I am not too sure which board would be correct. The cruise commander M has 2 two prong plug ins on the board; while the original tmcc board is no less than 3 prong. 6-38021 part number for reference. This engine is too amazing to be a wall hanger in my dorm. Any advice helps!

That engine has odyssey cruise which can be directly replaced by a ERR Cruise M. But it might not fix your loco depending on what is wrong with it. Does it run at all now?
All works other than movement! It’ll give a chuff but won’t move. Pretty sure she just needs a new motor
You need a bit more diagnostics before tossing expensive parts at it, …….the motor will run on DC power, disconnect the motor from all boards, and you can test the motor with a DC source, …..( old H.O. Power pack, etc.) you can actually support the locomotive on some fashioned blocks, get the wheels off the ground, and apply DC power to test all the mechanicals,…..

I generally use a standard 9v battery to test DC motors. Quick, easy, nothing to set up or plug in...
I use a bench power supply. I want to see more than the fact the motor spins. I like to see how much current it draws at various voltage settings, that gives you a much better indication of the health of the motor.
