Hi all,

Has anyone done a frame-ectomy on a traditional Lionel GP7/9? I have one that was nicely repainted in Maine Central colors a few years ago. Recently I picked up an awesome MTH GP38 in the same paint scheme. They look good together, except that the toylike GP7 frame now sticks out even more.

I'm starting to contemplate building a new frame out of...styrene? MDF? Just something that will give a good-looking engine a proper foundation. Wondering if anyone has done this before, and if you could share any pictures or tips? How about new fuel tanks and/or handrails?

Thanks,

Alan

I too think the big gap is a distraction. I have thought about attaching  a piece of black cloth so that it blocks the view between the frame and the trucks. I do not think that would interfere with the movement of the trick and coupler.  It certainly would be less noticeable than the view through to the other side!
