Just, wondering if anyone ever did schematics of the flyonel gabe the lamplighter....

I want one.
I have the troublesome MTH version and was hoping to get some parts (reed switch) from Lionel and make the fix. I just have not done it yet.
Having the schematic might answer my question before I start buying parts.
Good luck.

Interesting. I am currently looking at some on Evilbay. What are the issues with the MTH version ? Other than pushing a button to operate them, is there another method of activation I don't know about ?
IIRC (sold the MTH one I had due to this operational difference), you have to turn on the light manually anyway when Gabe reaches the top of the tower. The Flyonel one does it automatically with a small micro switch, which is why I decided to keep it.

Well, the circuit board lays on top of a old style lock on type clip. When, moving I must have pushed the board up a bit. lol he release does not function. I believe I blew a feat or transistor.
I will have to take it off the layout and get a loop and check the part numbers.

A club on Long Island made a servo driven eccentric that mechanically limits the travel of Gabe. The device is under the platform and a relay is triggered with a button.
I'll try to find the link that saved to the post.
Sorry to hear about your problems. I had a original that I purchase back in the early seventies. I think it came from Trainworld. I sold it in December 2010. It never missed a beat.
Hi Shawn, I'm a member of the Railroad Museum of Long Island and as Carl mentioned above we took an MTH gabe and made him work on a single push of one button. When the button is pushed gabe climbs the ladder and when he reaches the top the lights turn on and then he goes down the ladder. Once at the bottom he turns off the lights. He has been in operation for the summer with no issues. If you would like to see it in action contact me, my email is in my bio. If you are able, stop by any Tuesday as we have work sessions from 9:30 till 2:30. Unfortunately we are closed for the season except for our Christmas open house but we can maybe arrange for a private showing. Lenny J
SHAWN,
Here is the post and thread about the "Gabe the lamplighter reworked"
I don't know, but it may be possible to get a control box from MTH or find one on eBay.
I looked on trainDr's flyer site. I didn't find gabe's wiring diagram at the first pass.
Shawn, that's great. I recall reading that post last Spring. Now that I am actively searching for Gabe, I'll keep your idea in mind. I would like to see a more detailed explanation and diagrams of your motorized circuitry.

I have the Lionel one if you are interested. Brand new. Took it out of the box to display and never installed it. Contact me
