I install a blinking red LED in RMT Christmas caboose in the rear door. In the process I ending up frying the marker lights. I contacted RMT and the light bulbs are not available for sale. Radio Shacks smallest light bulb is to big to slide into the marker, so is there smallest LED. Any ideas as to where I can find replaces.

I bought some 2mm bulbs for my Lionel box cab markers, they're pretty small. They're Model Power No. 252 14V 2mm bulbs.
Even smaller are these 1.2mm bulbs.

I had to hunt down tiny bulbs when I needed them for my boxcab. 
I buy led's about 1/16'' sq. from Mouser.They will fit into n scale markers! The dropping circuit you use can be a resistor or a power circuit from Ngeneering. They are available from the Walthers catalog already wired, if memory serves me.
