My first post here.  I am in the prep phase of my permanent layout.   I have built a couple of layouts and have always used the massive amount of tubular track i've had on hand.   This time around I'm going with Gargraves and Ross switches.   I will be modeling a section of the Rathole division of the Southern railway.  So I will Have some tunnels.  I was planning on using my tubular track for the hidden areas inside the tunnels.   Is there any pitfalls in doing this?   Track height, connections etc...    Also I plan on having a lot of lionel operating accessories.   Could I use the Lionel activation and decoupling tracks with the Gargraves track?   What would be the downside?   I have a ton of tubular activation tracks and decouplers, trying to adhere to a budget, lol.

Thank you in advance

Key question is your tubular track "O" or O27?  Gargraves and Ross are the height of O27.  To use with O tubular the Ross switches and Gargraves need to be raised up about 3/32 or so (I think, check this).  Ross makes a base for their switches that solves this or you can cut plywood or masonite to go under.  This is particularly an issue if you are connecting O tubular to all three connections of a switch.   In a long run of tubular connecting to a long run of Gargraves you can shore up the end of Gargraves like a short wedge piece to create a height transition.

I have used "O" UCS / RCS tracks with Gargraves and the same height issues apply, otherwise works fine if you are OK with appearance.

Pins for mating Gargraves to tubular have been hard to come by recently, but I hear that is about to change.
