The pickup roller on some of my rolling stock was getting stuck on the uncoupling track.(no pin in the middle rail)  You use only 2 track pins on each end of the track.  I inserted an insulating pin in the middle rail on each end.  That solved the pickup roller problem.  It is not yet screwed down and wired.  My question is did I do the right thing.  I will start another block before & after the uncoupling track.  I would like to know if this is correct before I screw it down and run the wire to it.

Gargraves has a number of different tracks. Some of the earlier versions of the track had the magnet too high and caused the problem you seem to be describing. There were a few posts on how to remedy the problem. Your fix may work, a lot depends on the item number. GG is pretty good at help, dropping an email off to them might get you a quick answer.

Because it is on a siding an I will switch the power on when I want to power up the track.....Wife's operating M & M cars etc on that track.

You said that you  used an insulating pin in the middle rail of each end of the uncoupling track. Why insulate both ends? There is no need to completely insulate the uncoupling track from the block that contains it. 

 

If the uncoupler is the first track in the isolated section, you only need to insulate one end. If the uncoupler is not the first section of track within the block then it needs no insulating pin. It should be treated like any other piece of track.
