Scott, with his post on his weekend photo fun thread, got me thinking of Halloween being on layouts.

A few years ago I put together an 8'x12' temporary Halloween layout that I let the neighborhoods kids see when handing out candy.

I apologize for how many pictures I'm showing but, well, you don't have to look at  them all

A few years ago, I made a Linus and Sally handcar for my little Peanuts Halloween setup.  I have changed the heads on the Charlie Brown and Lucy handcar, also.  The stationary figures are from a set by Forever Fun/Round 2.

WOW!  GREAT, GREAT work creating those.  And what a truly pleasant video to watch that you created.

thanks for contributing that.

Walt, thank you for all your fine work and enthusiasm for the hobby!!!!

Over the years I learned a lot about the Lionel handcars.  If anyone is having an issue with traction with the Lionel handcars, check to see if the lower frame is twisted where the wheel with the traction tire rides higher than the rest.  Since the frame takes a "set" after 30+ years, it's a simple fix to just add a thicker traction tire or double up on the regular tire (you may have to shave off a fraction of an inch of the fake break shoe on the body, if a thicker tire doesn't clear it).  Also, running them on filtered DC makes for smooth operation.  Keep wheels a rail clean.  You can add an electrolytic cap as an "electronic flywheel.'

What I found is that non-train people (those who otherwise don't care much about trains) love the handcars.  Lionel should partner with with Hallmark and make these products for Halloween and Christmas.  Think of the other products they could sell, like dump cars and illuminated Fastrack.

Take care, Joe.

while downsizing EVERYTHING 3 years ago, I gave away to my brother (a BIG Halloween crazy) all of my extensive collection of train layout halloween things.  I kept the figures though, and combined with the many Homies that I have, it made for an OK neighborhood halloween scene.

This year I want to expand on that.  I am trying to find scenery items that would fit in yards or at a public space.  Don't have a lot yet, but I like taking my time and enjoying the hunt.

Here's 3 that I found last month to use as yard decorations.  I plan on having an 11' halloween parade thru a neighborhood, going thru a park area so these will be useful.

Happy Halloween, everyone.  The Boo brothers invite you to tomorrow’s sale when pumpkins will be one/half off.

. . . unless the neighborhood urchins get to them first, in which case, they'll be a lot more than half off!
