I'm finally in the construction phase of my 8'x24.5' layout using Atlas O 3 rail track, and after going over countless ideas for some industries I just can't decide on something im going to be happy with permanently. In the picture you'll see a big open area in the middle of the tabe and i want to fill that with 3 industries (oil, rock, and sugar). Thoughts and ideas of any kind would be greatly appreciated!
disregard the switches that are already in that area lol.

To me, your track plan is quite elaborate. Is the layout viewable from all sides ? As far as industries in the open area, you're already off to a good start with the switch tracks I'm supposed to disregard.....LOL
Those three turnouts are in ideal locations to serve three industries. I really think you hit on something good.
You can’t switch cars in the yard without the switch engine fouling the main line. You need a “Switching Lead.”

I know it might be a tad cluttered and way over the top lol, but here it is.....
I like the feel of your first one with some open area, the second seems like a lot of near parallel tracks.
