Well, I'd start by lubing the trucks and checking the motor mount screws, make sure everything is tight.
If you don't get any action connecting to one of the center rail rollers, there is clearly a wire that is disconnected, that should be easy to track down. However, having said that, K-Line had a bunch of their stuff that had the two pickups connected through the motherboard, and it's quite common for a derailment to blow that trace. It's not that difficult to fix, but you do have to remove the motherboard.
And not about your problem, my engine had metal break down on the trucks and other parts.

Seemed to be a common problem, at least with the New Haven version. Had a lot of zinc rot problem with the pilots and the trucks. I've had three of them, and two had broken parts, and I saw a number of others for sale that had similar problems. My current one hasn't had a problem yet, but it's been in the box for awhile, and I'm concerned about what I'll find. I'm thinking about smearing some epoxy on the inside of the pilots to help strengthen them.
THANKS JOHN!!!! moved the mother board....collector wire broken...saved me a big repair.bill....joe
