Joe,

Nothing particularly easy or hard about adding the fixed pilot.  I've attached some photos.

First you need to remove pilot from the truck.

Remove the coupler.

Cut the armatures off the back of the pilot that mount to the truck.

Then I cut and shape the plastruct 1/8" plastic (shown in photo).  You need this to lower the pilot or I will be too high off the rails.  I cut with a fine tooth saw and shape with a file.

I then glue the plastic to the pilot (gorilla glue) and trim with a file and sand paper.

I then align and drill and tap holes to the metal base and not the shell.  This way I can still remove the shell.  I glued the pilot on first before drilling and tapping holes so it stays in place.

I also cut the same 1/8 plastic to fill the hole in the front and surround the kadee box.  I basically cut a square to fill the hole and then cut a square within that for the kadee box.

I then paint, let dry and mount

I was lazy and just glued on the Kadee coupler.  I could drill and tap.  I'll wait until I crash into something and it breaks off first.  lol

I lowered the snow plow by cutting the armatures off the snow plow and added some plastic in the back to mount.  I used glue so it should not run into anything. This in effect helped lower the pilot which was still too high.

Then I added the hoses shown in the photos.  I drilled some holes in the face of the pilot to hold the hoses.  I used glue.   The longer one is in the front by the coupler.  I had to cut holes in the snow plow for the hoses to pass through.

I painted the hoses black and the tips silver.

I then weathered, but I over weathered.  It looks good from a distance but not close up.  I was in a time crunch for the video so I didn't touch it, again you can't tell from a distance.  I could clean with alcohol but I would have to repaint.  I'll do it later...maybe.

This is basically the same procedure I used when fixing my engines.

Rich
