Here is a new video I did over the break. I bought this beat up engine on Ebay with no box knowing I would fix the pilot and weather it. I also moved in the trucks. I think it looks much better. Enjoy!

Very nice Rich....always love your videos!

Rich - Very nice! I love the modern Amtrak engines. MTH/Walthers did a really good job on them. Your layout looks fantastic.

Rich,
Great train and video, just outstanding. If the train was mine I would add people to the rolling stock, which is fantastic as it is now. 1st Genesis I have ever liked, great rework job!

Your layout looks amazing as always!
Great job on the Genesis.
Thanks for posting.

Rich,
The Genesis looks great, as does your layout.

Hi Rich, I put two rail wheels on mine and never touched the pilots! Very nice. How bad was it to add the KD and fixed pilot? I "put it on the backburner". Joe
Very cool Rich. Having ridden coast to coast behind units like that and owning WBB similar locos I can't wait to run mine.......
Wow .... the engine looks great! Great job.
Terrific video, too.
Nice job Rich,
Dave
Rich, just a fabulous video and of course a gorgeous layout
Alex
Great video,beautiful layout.
Rich, great video. Your layout is really a treat, such an attention to detail, color, texture and lighting. Love the Amtrak power....well done.
Rich, ditto, great video once more. Always cool watching your vids. Nice job on the engine. Now I have to go and watch The Black Diamond part 3 again.
Rick
Looks great you are one of the masters of the hobby!
Good video Rich. Thanks for posting it. Modern times, but still got a steam excursion train in there with the S3, huh? Nice!
Rich,
Thanks for posting the video. You would not know that It was beat up by the looks of it now.
Thanks again,
David
Super work, Rich!

Joe,
Nothing particularly easy or hard about adding the fixed pilot. I've attached some photos.
First you need to remove pilot from the truck.
Remove the coupler.
Cut the armatures off the back of the pilot that mount to the truck.
Then I cut and shape the plastruct 1/8" plastic (shown in photo). You need this to lower the pilot or I will be too high off the rails. I cut with a fine tooth saw and shape with a file.
I then glue the plastic to the pilot (gorilla glue) and trim with a file and sand paper.
I then align and drill and tap holes to the metal base and not the shell. This way I can still remove the shell. I glued the pilot on first before drilling and tapping holes so it stays in place.
I also cut the same 1/8 plastic to fill the hole in the front and surround the kadee box. I basically cut a square to fill the hole and then cut a square within that for the kadee box.
I then paint, let dry and mount
I was lazy and just glued on the Kadee coupler. I could drill and tap. I'll wait until I crash into something and it breaks off first. lol
I lowered the snow plow by cutting the armatures off the snow plow and added some plastic in the back to mount. I used glue so it should not run into anything. This in effect helped lower the pilot which was still too high.
Then I added the hoses shown in the photos. I drilled some holes in the face of the pilot to hold the hoses. I used glue. The longer one is in the front by the coupler. I had to cut holes in the snow plow for the hoses to pass through.
I painted the hoses black and the tips silver.
I then weathered, but I over weathered. It looks good from a distance but not close up. I was in a time crunch for the video so I didn't touch it, again you can't tell from a distance. I could clean with alcohol but I would have to repaint. I'll do it later...maybe.
This is basically the same procedure I used when fixing my engines.
Rich
Well Done.
Really Nice job Rich . Happy New Year.
Thanks Rich
