I am not sure why I did not try this before, but the record playback feature is great. Especially since my trains are on public display I am going to record a few sessions so I can just playback.  People have so many questions I really don't want to be bothered with the remote when talking to people.

Question.  How long of a session can you record,is there a time limit?

Question.  If I buy regular Fastrack remote switches will those work with the AIU and the the DCS system?

Not sure what the length of the recording is but as long as the switches are controlled by the TIU/ AIU setup, they will throw.

The only issue is timing.  Although DCS and Legacy recordings can be accurate to a degree they do suffer from "creep".  If you are having an engine go through a switch, just make sure it throws well before the engine arrives.  After multiple loops, the engine may beat the switch to the throw.

How long of a session can you record,is there a time limit?

From page 115 of The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition:

Sound the bell, whistle, or horn on any PS2 engines wherever they are at any time, play the forward or reverse signals at will and put the engines through their paces for up to 90 minutes or 500 button presses, or any combination of the two. Uncouple a train from an engine, stop the engine, back it up, re-couple the train, and pull out again. Put the trains through as complicated an operating session as you like.

This and a whole lot more is all in "The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", now available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book from MTH's web store site!

Thanks!

Marty,

Where is the recording stored?  TIU, remote, or engine?

Recordings are stored in the TIU. Each TIU has accommodations for 3 separate recorded sessions. However, if running in Super TIU mode, all TIUs have the same saved recordings, per layout.

So, for Normal TIU operation, 3 recordings may be saved in each TIU, for a total of 3 times the number of TIUs recordings. However, if operating in Super TIU mode, only 3 recordings total may be saved.

The reason for the difference is that when operating in Super TIU mode, all TIUs participate in the recorded session, while under Normal TIU mode, recorded sessions are restricted to a single TIU.

That's all in the book, as well!

Marty,

Mine was behind.  I recorded a PFA stop and it stopped 8 feet before where I actually recorded the stop so by the time the whole playback happened it was approximately 8 feet behind in the distance it needed to go however no that I am thinking about it I wonder if my start point was the same when I hit the play back button.  In any case this is a whole new level of fun.

Thank you Barry
