My Lionel UP JLC H7 through a traction tire last weekend so I decided to replace them for the first time. The front engine tires were pretty straight forward but I gave up trying to replace the tires on the rear engine. There's just too much valve linkage in the way so I just left those wheels tireless. The engine still runs and pulls great.

Has anyone else been through this and have any tips for installing new tires?

Thank you!

I Don't have the H7 but on most of my engines I remove one side of the draw bar at a time. My Dreyfus Hudson was the hardest one I have ever done... took an hour a side. Place the tire on the hard to reach side first, then walk it around with a couple of tooth picks.
I had to send the kids upstairs on the Dreyfus... to many harsh words.
Then I found out the tires I had were from an 0-8-0!
They still are on today...

The other opportunity is to use RTV and walk it around the driver wheel or a product called bull frog snot. its a rubber adhesive that will work just as well.
Just remember to clean the surface of the driver with alcohol wipes before you apply.
The trick here is adding power to move the driver along while your applying the rubber adhesive evenly.

To bad your not down the road. I have done so many I think I have it down pat.
good luck.
J Daddy, thank you for the tips. Have you changed them on an articulated engine? On the H7 the rear engine tires are on the first set of drivers which are alongside the valve gear which makes access extremely difficult. On the front engine they are on the rear set of drivers which only has the side rod in the way. Also, once the side rod is disconnected you can rotate the wheels. On the rear engine the front driver set is connected to the gears and can't be rotated by hand.

If you are refering to them being behind the cylinders and valve gear rather than the almost wide open rear driver, good luck!A very poor design flaw. Been there and done that, won't buy anymore built that way. Hoping they drop rubber tires very soon.

J Daddy, maybe I could but I really don't want to.  I'd like to hear from someone who has changed these tires on the H7.  Again I think having just the front tires will be fine.  It seems to pull well.  I have a 33 car train on it and it does great.  I'm just wondering if someone has been able to do the change and if there is a trick to make it a reasonable process.  Your idea may be the answer.
