I know it is, too. But, some of those dudes can be, and are really creative at times. A car, such as the one you've photographed and posted doesn't bother me to much. I don't care for it to much when they tag a fallen flag car though.

I don't tend to model graffiti on my trains, but, don't care if someone does. The ones who model subway and elevated trains and model graffiti make their trains look more realistic IMO. I might consider doing graffiti on some low cost cars I've bought in the past. But, won't do it on something I've paid better money for.

That's a statement, but kinda weak, looks underplanned. The N in killn, could have been leaned lazy to play the Z in Killz Stain was my first thought.

  But the red oval is Krylons I'd guess now   .... KYLLN,... KILLYN,... they could have, should have, played the Y for Krylon with the red oval to stay spray theme. The KRY is the "hook", KY will work for recognition in a pinch with the same oval, colors, and font look..... Just sayn

My preferred type of graffiti would be seeing some taggers strapped to the sides of freight cars. For a 2000 mile all-weather trip.

Now that is awesome. If I were UP I'd paint the appropriate markings and such back on the engine but keep the paint scheme. Minus the eyes. Truly a work of art and even more impressive that they weren't caught. 

I like it...Do you think it might even prevent a crossing accident?  On the other hand someone is going to have remove it ..... nope! still like it.

With today's drivers I doubt it. Reminds me of when American fighters were painted with shark faces in WW2.

I think they ought to keep it for "Operation Lifesaver"!

I witnessed a spray painter tagging hoppers recently and called NS and Cleveland police.  Then I saw the vandal get into a very new Honda.  Maybe someone should paint up his Honda sometime!

  The artist has been "killing" (using up) cans of spray paint doing tags since 1987.

Krylon dries fast, RustO' sets thick and doesn't need much recoating to look solid. These are favorite brands of taggers for those reasons.

I.e. it is an advertising parody beginning to end.

...if the crews didn't fight over the assignment. Even then, I'd have to consider using it as a goal incentive, lol.

With subway graffiti,at least in NYC, it hasn't been realistic for a long time to put graffiti on the models, the TA won that war a while ago, haven't seen grafitti on subway cars in along time (I don't count the idiots who scratch or even etch glass........schmucks). 

I like the one with the Monster face, I am sure as ****ed as they likely are some of the train people got a laugh out of it. The eyes painted on the windows, though, have to go, would be hard to see through those

However amusing some may find this, painting graffiti on someone else's property is a crime.  In this case the railroad will have to pay for repainting the engine and auto carriers shown in this post.  The cost of this eventually gets added on to the prices of shipping.  Who ends up paying? You and I. 

Plus the time & money spent to remove that engine from the lead position and put further back into consist. Can the crew do that or does maintenance preform that job?

The " artists " went to a lot of time and expense to vandalize private property.

I guess they have nothing better to do with their time or government assistance checks !!!

Maybe if they had to work all day they would be too tired to spend all nite "painting"

In the real world, the auto rack will more than likely not get repainted. 
As far as the loco goes, on the face of it, the UP ought to have it head examined for leaving them stored out in the middle of nowhere unprotected. Then again, they may have been sold (a good possibility) to another RR and waiting transfer. In which case, the other guys will paint it their own color.

Whoever picks up these units will just couple on to one end or the other, so, that's of no concern.

Did the Union Pacific ever make a statement about this?  It is certainly a colossal effort.  I can't seem to find much other commentary on this.
