I was playing around with some extra rolling stock pieces today and came up with this. I think I am going to finish it and make some molds.

Nicely done.
Dave, great job on the ingots. I was disappointed that the ones that K-Line by Lionel never came out. One thing that you could also do to the ingots would be to add lights to the inside of the ingots. You could add either bright red lights or clear lights with a red piece of plastic to the inside top of the ingots. This would give them the appearance that they just got poured.
Good luck and I can't wait the finished model.
Very creative, what did you use for the ingots?
Chris
David,
That car looks real nice.

Great stuff Dave. What's the larger round hole in the middle of the car floor?? The B&W Kopple Works (Kopple Steel) had a Continuous Caster in the 90's. IMO, the industry quickly went that way v.s. the ingot pours. Ingots/molds date the industry.

David,
Well done! Should go very nicely with a K-Line Plymouth switcher. Question: Why the hole in the middle of the car?

Thanks!
The hole will get covered up. There is no top plate or side plates on the car yet . The donor car was an American crane base. The cab mount was cut out (hole) and the car was narrowed 1/2" The car was also lowered on the trucks quite a bit.
I plan on making a mold to cast more when it is done.

David, I agree with the others that your car project looks great!
I'm sure the lighting feature that paulp mentioned crossed your mind and possibly is incorporated in your design. It would be neat to see a red/orange flickering glow (Evans LEDs?). It's probably cost/design ineffective and a little overkill, but provide a wow factor if a small smoke unit could be incorporated into one ingot.
Keep up the creative work, we look forward to seeing more ...many, many more.
Thanks!

Dave,
Spectacular job on the ingot molds. What the dimensions of the molds? I may want a bunch!
George
Very nice work. I just found a trio of cell-battery-powered candles at the local Dollar store whose 'flickering light' innards would fit right in those ingots.
I did not make the ingot molds. I got them from a friend of mine.
