The freight yard:

That's a lot of tracks that you have there. How long are they?
Great start! Are you going to use the yard for making up trains or primarily for storage of complete trains? If I counted right, you have sixteen tracks! That will hold a lot of cars. Do you have a long yard lead planned to allow you to switch cars without fouling the mainline? Looks really good, can't wait to see more.

Yep! That yard is just 1/5 of the entire layout. It branches out to a long line that can also double as a mainline when I want. There is also a reverse loop on the other end.
Wow Greg, that's cool. Are you stopping them there, or are they going to extend over the bench there? That would be helpful so you could store longer trains. I really enjoy seeing a big yard. Can't wait to see it full. Great job, keep up the good work!

That benchwork in the background is going to be the passenger terminal which sits perpendicular to the freight yard.
Congrats! Looks like you have a good start for a fun layout. Looking forward to more updates.
That's an exciting start! I love making and breaking trains in the yard.
Nice Greg. I like the fascia detail too. Are those shelves below the yard or are more tracks going down there?
Got a track plan to share?
Bob
That looks like an impressively large space you have to work with. I counted four independent loops across three levels I think.
That is an awesome layout plan. It's big. What are the dimensions?

Approx. 30 x 40 ft.

Four independent loops are correct. 1,000 feet of track, three levels, bottom level: 42", main level: 49", top level 56" off the ground.
(sorry...I meant to reply to Naresar's message.)
This track plan looks (if I'm following it correctly) like it will work for loop running and point-to-point. Is that correct? It looks heavily inspired by the stuff I usually see in HO layouts. I'm a big fan of this sort of thing!

It's mainly loop running, but there is possibility for point to point. (I grew up with the traditional Lionel loops) and enjoy that, but also like to play switchman LOL. I also designed it with multiple reversing loops so that I can keep it interesting and not get bored watching the same loop over and over again. Adding the yellow line also allows me to live dangerously and run two trains in opposing directions on the same loop.
I have not used any HO pictures or plans. This is my fourth go at a layout and I have just planned it base on what I wanted and do better than the previous ones.
You are going to have a lot of fun with your new layout. I'm impressed, and maybe a bit jealous at the size of your layout. I bet everyone who has commented about your layout is awaiting future updates.
