Has anyone come up with a reliable method for joining sections of Gargraves without the little "bump" the joiners create between track sections?

I place a piece of thin wood(I use tongue depressors) under the joint. You can also cut an inch off each end of the track but I think that is a waste.
The dip in the rail ends, or the pin indexing? Grind the protrusions off the pins, stagger the joints for the dips.
Take a wood block and a hammer and tap the rail joints together, right over that bump in the Gargraves pin. It pushes the rails up tight, eliminating the gap, and is quick and simple.

I have heard of using strips of steel the height of the rail instead of a pin. The purpose was to allow a section of track to be removed without impacting the neighboring piece.

From GarGraves:
Do you have a special tool to remove the black from inside the rail where the pin goes ?
