Layout Design

Have you tried the SCRAM software?  It is a great starting point for designing your layout.

Where would the walls be in relation to the table dimensions?

 

Definitelt download SCARM to mess around. Doesn't take that long to get the basics.

 

Can you sketch the area on paper a post a photo? Walls and table location.

 

Can it be a walk-around?

 

Have you considered around the walls?

I am having trouble with adding an attachment for some reason.  So I will try to word it out.

I have 1 4X8 plywood on one side of one of the walls.  On the other side, 2 of the 3 remaining sides will be open, the other has a back wall.  So basically, if you were to look at a corner of any room, and say 2 4X8 plywoods would go in the corner in any angle or fashion, and on the left wall, i would have 1 other 4X8 directly on the other side with the 8foot part flush against the wall, and I can put small holes in the wall to have enough space for the train/track to come thru.

I was going to use the 1 4X8 behind the wall as the yard, and use the 2 4X8's together to be the layout.  I was also thinking that I could possibly have a horseshoe shape with the 2 4X8's (I have another small piece of plywood I can put in between them along the wall.)

Hope this description helps.  Ill keep trying to get a table view on here. 

Also, as far as this SCARM, is it free?  I will try it out, thanks for the advice and thanks for the posts!  Keep them coming!

The 8 x 8 with the 4 x 8 yard would be fun. That would be a big enough yard to go in the other room and work in the yard for a while making up trains. Then to the 8 x 8 and bring a train out and run it.

Im posting from my work computer, so maybe it is not allowing me to go into my files.  When I click on "select files" it is not opening a window for me to select the files.  Ill try at home this weekend.

 

In order to go from room to room, my thought was to put 2 holes in the wall, one in the back corner of the room (to go in) and the other on the near left wall where they would come out.  I could build a tunnel extension for where it would come out as well.

 

Anyway, Thanks for the advice, Ill check on SCARM this weekend as well.

 

It is so great to chat with people that are just as obsessed with trains and layouts as I am.  And by obsessed I mean that I am "such a little kid not being able to wait till next Christmas to get more Trains" obsessed.  ;o)
