Legacy 6-84948 PRR H-10 Bell Control Oddity

No issues with mine. A quick push and release of the bell slider yields a short swing. Holding the slider up for 2 seconds or so makes the bell swing continuously.

I always figured that was how Lionel handled the "single bell hit" Legacy feature with the swinging bell.

Maybe the cab1L can't access the single bell hit?

I had a different problem with my H10 #1288 bell when it was first delivered. The problem was, using cab2 Legacy, that the bell strangely only swung in one direction but did it continuously. Lionel fixed it and it now swings both ways as it should.

I don't recall ever testing this at length before, but having two identical locomotives do the same thing, I'm thinking I'm not going to fix this without Lionel's help.

This issue came up with the S-2 electric. I can see if I can dig up the thread but it required a new (reprogrammed) RCMC if I remember correctly. My tinplate S-2 set still has the issue cause I I bought it on the secondary market plus I’m not $120 frustrated with it 😅

I thought the s2 was "delivered "with defective bell operation?

If this is something that's happening over time with the h10 , that's strange.

I guess now I wait and see when or if mine ever fails.

I honestly can't say it developed over time.  Since two identical models do it, I'd have to say I just didn't notice it when I got them.  I would have sworn that I had used the bell on one of these...

These happen to be both mine.  I bought the second one second hand because I got a great deal, and I figured I'd either renumber it or sell it.  I just noticed that I couldn't keep the bell working, but only with Legacy and it works fine with TMCC.  I'm guessing this is an RCMC programming issue, can't think of any other thing that could do something this selective!

I'd like to see if someone with this specific model has the same oddity...

I found that old thread HERE and it looks like in this particular case it was the coil drive board not the RCMC

Sorry, no help for the h10... but, my S2 (4710 Penn Central) is a four (4) second count and 'release' for the bell to keep swinging upon release.   Two, three, five, six seconds etc do not work.

That seems to work suspiciously like the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch! (4 shall be the counting, not 3 nor 5. 3 shall not be counted, unless it is immediately followed by 4. 6 is right out!)

I have the 84949 (Reading Seashore Line version) and it works fine.  Single or continuous with the CAB-2

Pretty odd, I wonder why this model is uniquely afflicted?  I'm 99% sure it's software since triggering the bell with TMCC works fine.
